Safeguarding

John Hanson Community School is wholly committed to ensuring that all children and adults who engage with the school as a student or community user of the site, are cared for in a safe and secure environment. To fulfil this commitment, a number of safeguarding arrangements are in place.

Policy and Procedures

We will ensure all policies and procedures in respect of safeguarding children are up-to-date and in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education 2023. The key policies are accessible on the school website and all policies are available for parents and carers via the main reception. Policies and procedures are reviewed and revised by the governing body on a regular basis.

Governing Body Responsibilities

The Full Governing Body has oversight of our safeguarding responsibilities. Governors receive annual training on safeguarding and a number of governors have had specific additional training. There is a designated governor for safeguarding.

Disclosure, Barring Checks and Recruitment

John Hanson Community School meets statutory requirements in relation to the Disclosure & Barring Service, all staff and volunteers who work with the school who meet the regulated activity test (Freedoms Act 2012), are required to undergo an enhanced DBS check prior to employment.

On every interview panel there is at least one person with current safer recruitment training accreditation.

Designated Safeguarding Leads  - DSL

The school has three trained Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSL). Mrs Kim Hide, Assistant Headteacher  Pastoral who leads on this area of school. She is supported by Mrs Karen Wilson - Inclusion manager, and Mrs Anna Hall, Assistant Headteacher. The leads are clear about their role, have sufficient time and receive relevant support and training, to undertake their roles, which includes close contact with outside agencies, including social care, the Hampshire County Council Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO)and relevant health care organisations.

Training

All eligible staff and volunteers are required to undertake annual safeguarding training and this is regularly reviewed.

Community Users

The school extends training opportunities for child protection and radicalisation to community users.
